High Protein, High Calorie diet rich in vitamins and minerals is useful for recovery

Diet plays a very important role in the healing process. To speed up the recovery, burns patients must consume a high protein and calorie diet. Skin burn causes a loss of substantial percentage of micronutrients, such as copper, selenium, and zinc. This slows the healing process and also increases the risk of infection.

Some of the vitamins important for the recovery are Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Glutamine, Arginine, copper, zinc, Selenium etc.

Other factors you need to know for burns

Once the preliminary treatment for the burn is done, don’t get careless. Take your medicines on time and do not keep the wound open.

Minor Burns - Treatment

NEVER apply toothpaste to the burn. All it does is temporarily relieve the pain but in the long run, causes even worse scarring later on (traps heat, allowing burn to progress deeper) DO NOT use ice - it causes hypothermia to the burnt area Once burnt immediately run burnt area under cold water for few minutes to help prevent burn from progressing. Allow few minutes break before running under cold water again. Constantly apply moisturizer to keep burnt area well-hydrated. If blisters form, DO NOT pop them. Cover with absorbent non-stick pads (eg. MELOLIN) which allow burnt area to 'breathe'. This'll help cushion & protect the burnt area thus allowing it to properly heal. Blisters will subside/pop by themselves, so DO NOT TOUCH THEM! Crusts of dead skin will form over the layer of new skin. Again, DO NOT PEEL THEM or you could risk damaging the new skin underneath. The dead skin acts as a natural "protector" for the new skin below. PS: Don't forget to moisturize!!
