Angioplasty

Heart disease is one of the top silent killers among adults.

More women have been affected by heart disease then men in the past several years. Heart disease is caused from a clogged artery in the heart. The artery becomes clogged due to cholesterol and an unhealthy fat build up.

This is usually from eating a diet of high-fat or high-cholesterol foods. Heart disease can be prevented by a healthy diet and exercise routine.

Angioplasty is a procedure that is performed to restore the blood flow to the artery in the heart. A doctor may recommend angioplasty in order to minimize the damage to the heart muscle or to reduce the amount of chest pain an individual experiences due to reduced blood flow.  Over one million people in the United States have a coronary angioplasty performed each year.

Coronary artery disease is usually a genetic disease that is passed down from one generation to the next.

Sometimes coronary artery disease occurs because an individual is obese or has a poor diet. If coronary artery disease is left untreated the patient can suffer from a heart attack.

A heart attack occurs when an artery becomes blocked to the extent that the blood flow is restricted. An individual who suffers from a heart attack will need to have bypass surgery.

Bypass surgery is designed to unrestrict the blood flow to the damaged artery. Plus during bypass surgery the surgeon will try to repair the damage that has been done to the heart muscle.

Atherosclerosis is the narrowing and hardening of the arteries in the heart due to a material called plaque. Atherosclerosis in the early stages can be treated by medicine that is supposed to reduce the amount of plaque in the artery.

If left untreated this plaque will continue to build until the patient has a heart attack.

An angiogram is a type of procedure that can test the blood flow in the arteries of the heart. The angiogram can tell if an individual is suffering from reduced blood flow or a blockage in the artery.

The heart is one of our main muscles and must be treated with care. In order to prevent heart disease it is very important to engage in a healthy diet and a daily exercise program.

This will ensure a healthy heart. If you are concerned about your heart or having chest pains it is important to contact your physician immediately. Your physician will discuss your options with you.
