EyesThe detection of light is the eyes’ responsibility.
Three layers make up the human eye and this is called the vascular tunic, the nervous tunic and the fibrous tunic. The outer layer of the eyes is called the fibrous tunic and it is composed of the cornea and the sclera. The middle layer of the eye is called the vascular tunic and included here is the iris, the choroids and the ciliary body. The inner part of the eye is called nervous tunic and this consists of the retina.
What makes up the white part of the eyes is the sclera and this is a tough material.
The transparent covering over the colored portion of the eye (the iris) is called the cornea. The iris’s job is to make sure that it controls the amount of light that enters the pupil. The area between the cornea and the iris is called the anterior chamber, and here is a special fluid that nourishes the eye.
Eyelids and eyelashes protect and cover the eyes, and the eyelids and eyelashes help keep the eyes moist and clean. All you have to do is blink in order to do this.
The eyelids also protect the eyes with automatic reflexes that shut the eyes in time.
Eye diseases affect the eye and the structure of it. A number of these eyes diseases relate to age, and with that comes the quality of vision. However, a few of these common eye diseases are simply caused by not taking proper eye care.
Glaucoma is one common eye disease that can be detected in the beginning. It is human nature that one will only learn when something happens to that person, so when something is wrong with the eye, one will only realize it when it is too late. Optic nerve damage causes eye disease with the added pressure to the eyeball itself. There is treatment for it, if it is detected early.
Late treatment will result in vision loss.
Conjunctivitis is also known as Pink Eye. This is when the membrane lining the eyeball and the eyelid is inflamed. This is simply caused by a bacterial or viral infection. Even a partially opened tear duct can cause this.
This can be quite irritating, and the reason being the constant discharge from the eyes.
There are those out there that have poor vision but refuse to wear contact lenses or spectacles. A treatment called Eye Lasik is an available eye surgery that uses laser lights to correct eye vision. There are certain complications, so it will be in your best interest to make sure that you know the pros and cons of this type of surgery before deciding.
