Common Conditions and Causes of Snoring Snoring is a very common condition among men and sometimes even women and teenagers.
Snoring is not a serious health condition but frequent snoring can pose as a serious threat in the future. It is a common condition but can cause disturbance, future problems and also disrupt sleep of those around you. It usually occurs to people who sleep on their backs. It is caused by a vibration in the back of the roof of the mouth.
Due to sleeping on the back, the muscles of the roof tend to relax which opens up the airway in the back of the throat which eventually causes snoring. Fatigue is considered to be one of the main causes of snoring. Rigorous physical or mental activity and stress may cause immense fatigue and you may eventually snore during sleep. Other main cause of snoring includes binge drinking especially before bed time.
Consumption of alcohol in large quantities may cause heavy snoring while sleeping. Obesity is another factor for snoring. Snoring can cause serious sleep disorder called sleep apnea A natural treatment for snoring would be to reduce the consumption of alcohol at nights or might as well stop it completely. Smoking should be stopped completely and immediately as it also plays a pivotal role in snoring.
Smoking causes nasal congestion and hence heavy snoring at nights. Losing weight will also help a great deal in the reduction of snoring. Severe cold is another reason for snoring. Due to cold, the nasal passages are blocked which causes snoring.
It is also very important to check your prescription drugs as it may cause drowsiness and eventually heavy snoring. Put on a habit of sleeping on the side instead of your back. This may reduce the snoring to a great extent. If you are not able to sleep on your side, it is advisable to place a tennis ball on your back.
This way, sleeping on your back will become very uncomfortable and you will be forced to sleep on your side. A natural factor of snoring is age. Especially men over the age of 50 tend to get tired quite quickly and hence snore at nights. Frequent and severe snoring can also cause sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is condition where the person while sleeping ceases to breathe. Frequent snoring can also cause high blood pressure or uneven beating of the heart. If a person is suffering from sleep apnea then the treatment for snoring should begin at its earliest. It is highly advisable to seek a doctor's advice as soon as possible.
