What Causes Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)? The Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is also known as Ekbom Syndrome or Jimmy Legs.
It is defined as an involuntary jerk movement in the legs or the feet which happens mostly at night while you are sleeping. The leg jerks involuntarily without the knowledge of the person who is suffering from it. It is closely related to Periodic Limb Movements of Sleep (PLMS). Low iron levels or anemia is considered to be one of the main causes of restless leg syndrome.
Due to lack of nutrients, the muscles in the body produce an involuntary jerk which cannot be controlled. This effect is not only seen in legs and feet but also arms. Some people may experience this condition on a daily basis and suffer from restless legs for years. Family history, such as a genetic form of the disorder is considered to the main cause of restless leg syndrome.
Stress is also regarded to give rise to the restless leg syndrome.
Massage and Other Alternative Treatments for Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) Apart from it being a physiological disorder, restless leg syndrome is also considered to be a psychological disorder. During this condition, the sufferer may feel an insect crawling up the legs which may cause the person to shake it off. It is very important to cure this condition at its earliest as it may injure you when your leg involuntary moves.
It may also injure the person who is sleeping with you. The restless leg alternative treatment lies right at home. The best treatment for restless legs is to consume a healthy diet which contains proteins, vitamins, minerals and other various essential nutrients that are required by the body on a daily basis. Other method of treatment includes exercising before bedtime.
Leg exercises, brisk walks or a 10 minute run have been proven to be quite beneficial for the treatment of restless leg syndrome. Coffee and tea should be avoided after dinner. Smoking should be stopped immediately as it damages the blood flow in the body and also makes the muscles of the leg inactive.
A natural treatment for restless legs is to soak them in a tub of warm water for 10 to 15 minutes everyday.
This method will soothe the leg muscles and also relieve pain. Aromatherapy is also considered to be an effective home remedy for restless legs. Massage your legs with three to four drops of lavender oil or essential oil before sleeping. Restless Leg Syndrome is not a dangerous disease but it is highly advisable to get rid of it as soon as possible as it may disrupt your sleep patterns which may cause other problems in your day to day life.
