Constipation remedies for infants and children

Constipation is quite common among newly born children.

It is not mandatory to have a bowel movement every 24 hours. As the baby is just six months old, the food intake is also quite less which hence causes child constipation. Though, the situation and the concern should not be overlooked.

Make sure that the child is not suffering from any kind of illness as it could be a main cause. Another constipation remedy includes changing the diet of the child as the food consumed might not be suitable for the body. It is also advisable to provide the baby with milk at regular intervals so that the food in the stomach digests properly.

Consumption of lead in food products also cause constipation in infants and should be reduced or stopped immediately.

Treat Newborn or Infant Constipation

There are many medications available at pharmacies which are easily available without a doctor's prescription. It is better to consult a physician in such matters as he will know what is best for the baby. You can also give the child a small dose of a laxative after taking an advice from the doctor.

There are various infant laxatives available at a drug store which can be easily purchased.  Mother's milk is also very important for the child to consume as it is a natural source and excellent for the growth of the baby. Six months is also the time when an infant starts getting its first set of milk teeth. At this point of time, the baby either suffers from constipation or diarrhea depending upon the upbringing and environment.

The growth of the teeth upsets the regular working of the baby's stomach and causes newborn constipation. But since it is a natural process, nothing much can be done about it. Though constipation is not a medical disease, there is nothing to be worried about.

There have been several cases where an infant does not excrete for more than 36 hours. Apart from milk and food supplements, it is sometimes also important to provide the child with additional foods which include juices, grains and other various healthy foods. It is better that the child excretes naturally rather than trying on various techniques for the same.
