Atenolol is a class of medication called beta blocker. It is normally used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It may also be used to prevent angina (recurrent chest pain) and treat heart attacks.
Speak to your doctor if you experience any symptoms or discomfort. Consult your doctor for the likely cause of your palpitations. Possible side effects of atenolol are lightheadedness, tiredness, dizziness, depression, drowsiness, upset stomach, diarrhea.
If you experience breathlessness, unusual weight gain, fainting or swelling of hands, feet, ankles or lower legs, consult your doctor at once.
