A sore throat is nothing but the inflammation of the throat which is also known as,'Pharyngitis'. It is characterized by the inflammation of the visible part of the pharynx which causes reddening and is colloquially referred as a 'Sore-Throat'. Its causes can be very varied.

More often than not, infections of 'common cold' viruses are responsible. But at times, sore throat can also be caused due to irritation with certain chemicals. Whatever the cause, the condition should be referred to a doctor at once.

You have been very thoughtful and rightly so, in being careful about the remedies you employ during pregnancy. Pregnancy is a period of vital importance, as the mother's health directly influences that of the baby. Certain antibiotics are known to breach the placenta-barrier and cause harm to the baby. Therefore, during pregnancy, medication should be taken strictly only under the guidance of a medical doctor.

You may also try salt-water gargling. Crystals of salt should be added to warm water and the same should be used for gargling. Care should be taken to not swallow any of the salt water. Ginger juice mixed with a few drops of honey is also known to be an excellent remedy. A few pieces of ginger may be added to water and the same should be allowed to boil, till the amount of water decreases greatly. The resulting solution should be allowed to cool. This can be used as a syrup and a daily dosage of two spoons is known to greatly enhance recovery.

Also, you should maintain a balanced diet with lots of fresh-fruits and vegetables. Care must be taken to avoid too much of stress as this may be detrimental to the baby. Also, adequate rest should be taken. At any point of time, if there is any ailment whatsoever you must show the doctor immediately. Moreover, regular check-ups with the doctor should be arranged to ascertain your health as well as that of the baby.
