Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

You have not specified what you use or want to use coconut oil for. The benefits will of course be different, depending on how the coconut oil is used. In fact, as far as consumption of coconut oil goes, there are not many health benefits.


Coconut oil contains a lot of saturated fats, and therefore, rather than any health benefits, poses certain health risks. Saturated fats are known to increase the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol, and are therefore, in general, to be avoided as far as possible. Consuming coconut oil does however have other benefits, but these relate to specific health problems, and in general is not advisable.


For skin and hair, on the other hand, coconut oil is among the best treatments you can use. Coconut oil is very effective as a skin moisturizer, particularly virgin coconut oil. The best way to use it is to oil the entire body about an hour before bathing. Coconut oil is also excellent to condition and protect your hair. Coconut oil is absorbed by the hair probably better than any other oil, and in addition to retaining moisture, it protects the protein in the hair, the loss of which is a major factor in hair damage.
