Sinuses are air filled spaces found in the head and face which start developing before a person is born and may grow until he turns 20 years old. There are eight sinuses in all (four pairs) which are located between and behind the eyes, either side of the nose in the cheeks, forehead and back of the nasal cavity. These cavities are lined with thin mucous membrane which filters, moistens, warms and purify the air you breathe before it hits the lungs.

A bacterial/viral infection or an allergy can gum up this tiny airflow system causing many symptoms like headache, cough (green in color), post nasal drip, pressure in the eyes, nose and cheeks, bad breath, fever and thick nasal secretions. It is important to finish the medical course prescribed by your specialist for sinus treatment even after your symptoms subside, as this is the only way to kill all the infection. Besides the following sinus natural cures can be followed to get rid of the infection, reduce pain and pressure and get a free clean airflow.

Steam - Creating enough humidity for the sinus passage is the key to keep the mucus flowing, cilia working and sinus drained.

Bend over a boiling water pan with towel draped over your head, so that the steam cannot escape out. This will create a steam tent; inhale these vapors from your nostrils. You can even add a drop of vaporizer in the boiling water if your nasal passage is completely blocked as it will help to clear it instantly.

This is one of the best and well-known sinus home remedies. Other option is to take a steam bath twice or thrice daily, water should be enough hot to fog up your bathroom or the mirror. This can be done especially before going to bed at night to ensure a sound sleep.

At work - You can definitely not perform the above stunts at work when you have to rush, so what is the option then? Grab a cup of hot tea, coffee, or soup and cup you hands on top of the hot mug and sniff.

It will not be as effective as the steam inhaled from boiling water, but it will definitely provide some relief.

Humidify your room - Use a humidifier in the room which you sleep at night to prevent the sinus and nasal passage from drying out. Make sure to clean the room and fungus, as well as the filter of the air-conditioner to keep it clean.

If you are allergic to dust particles then get some ones help to do the cleaning stuff.

Drink extra liquids - Besides keeping the level of fluid intake high to keep the mucous flowing, sipping hot herbal teas made with mint, saga, fennel, anise, and fenugreek will also help.

Blow off - Don't get embarrassed to blow your nose, as it is important to remove the stale contents from the nose to clear the infection.
